Languages Used/Spoken in Yogya
More than 700 languages are spoken all over Indonesia, the official language being Bahasa Indonesia, which is some sort of modified Malay language. Bahasa Indonesia is used in commerce, administration, education and the media. However in local communities, Javanese is the most common spoken language among Indonesians.
In Yogyakarta, most of the population is Javanese. But being a student city, there is also significant population of people from other ethnicities in Indonesia. Bahasa Indonesia is the official national language, while Javanese is widely used as the spoken language.
Javanese language is mainly spoken in Central and East Java, which has an estimated population of 84.3 million. This is the most common and widely used language right after Malay/Bahasa Indonesia.
